    Bettie: Bye-bye, Key Largo!

The Key Largo Hotel and Casino, on Flamingo, just 2 blocks east of Bally's, is closing permanently on January 17, 2005. A developer has bought the property and will demolish the Key Largo and proceed with their construction plans.

    LVBear584: Good riddance

Back in the days when I played the puny match plays it offered, the pit and dealers were always surly and rude. It's like they went out of their way to chase off potential patrons.

Good riddance to this dump. I doubt if more than a handful of people will even notice it's gone.

This is one of those rare occurrences where I never set foot in this place, even when "casino hopping."

There are a few more, in Vegas where this is true, but this is especially noteworthy (to me) in that it's literally a stones throw from the strip.

That's about all you need to know about this place.

So yea Bear, we definitely agree here.

    cheers

Why are you sugar coating it? At least have the decency to tell us how you really feel.

    Good Cards,

Several years ago, I played there for several days in a row to take advantage of a particular opportunity. The security took care of paying off slot and vp handpays, and occasionally stood in for the pit manager when he needed to step out. The "pit" is all of 4 or 6 tables. What a dump! Any place that lets the pit critters smoke while they work is destined to die in this age of casino "resorts" and vacation "destinations." (Can anyone say "Horseshoe?")

Parker: Good things about Key Largo

    Okay . . . . .

    Just a minute, I'm thinking . . . . .

    Um . . . . . .

If you were staying at Terrible's and wanted to walk to the strip in the summer, it was a good place along the way to stop for a moment and cool off. The air conditioning seemed to work reasonably well.

The name was kind of cool, evoking memories of Bogart & Bacall. Of course, once you actually saw the place, you realized that this was bordering on blasphemy.

    Best I can do. :-)

If memory serves me correctly, they were called La Mirage in the 80's. Steve Wynn paid them $250,000 (lots of money back then, that's the figure I heard) for legal rights to the name Mirage. They changed their name to Anthony's, then Key Largo.
Good things about Key Largo? Boy,that's a tough one. I'll go with-
They have the "black splotch cards" aka Reno cards. The only others I know of in Vegas that have them are Nevada Palace, Arizona Charlies East, and, when I was last there 2 years ago, Railroad Pass. Back in late 2001 early 2002, Horsheshoe had them.
