Bettie: Singer Linda Ronstadt 86'd from Aladdin

    From today's LVRJ:

In a bizarre performance notable for its bridge-burning comments, [Linda] Ronstadt inflamed more than her Aladdin audience on Saturday by taking potshots at Las Vegas and dedicating "Desperado" to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.

When her show was over, the Aladdin had her checked out of her room and escorted off the premises.

Many walked out during the show, one concertgoer tossed a cocktail on her poster, others defaced her posters and the box office was "a mob scene" of people seeking refunds, according to an Aladdin spokeswoman.

"It's amazing how ugly it got," said Tyri Squyres, director of public relations at the Aladdin.

Ronstadt was a one-woman heat wave.

Early in the show she told the crowd not to expect her greatest hits and added a snide remark or two about Las Vegas and the Aladdin. Scores of fans filed out when Ronstadt made her dedication to Moore and his controversial political film.

"Our management is incredibly upset," Squyres said. "We're just very disappointed because we hired her for a good evening of entertainment for our guests.

"It was like she came in with a chip on her shoulder," Squyres said.

"To be clear, the Aladdin does not condone the comments made by Ms. Ronstadt," Squyres said by e-mail. "Ms. Ronstadt was hired to entertain the guests of the Aladdin, not to espouse her political views. Following her performance she was escorted out of the hotel and immediately checked out of her room. And she will not be welcomed back."

they found out that she was a card counter and this whole story is a fabrication to ,yet again, dispose of our kind in a way that criminalizes us and glorifies them

Why can't people like her remember they are paid to entertain .. no more .. no less.

Sure, they can have an opinion. Of course they can. And they can share it with others the same way the rest of us have to .. generally on our own time.

When a couple of hundred people are out trying to be entertained, and paying you alot of money to do it, then entertain them.

Editorialize in your free time. God knows you have more of that than most of the rest of us.

Since I'm eating lunch now, on my own time, I will editorialize.

... Michael Moore sucks and he can bite my butt.

(I guess that is not so much editorializing as making a statement of fact.)

Nice! Linda's all right. I'm sure a large portion of the audience were amused by her commentary, but there's no mention of that in the article...probably because "Audience Enjoys Show" isn't much of a headline.

(We might need to move this to the Waterkoolersoon, but I've got some LV references in here, so we're safe for now!)

An earlier article (the one I qouted above is from the gossip column), stated that she did receive some cheers, but that the majority of the people wgo responded did so negatively. The article also quoted her as saying that she hates Las Vegas and performing here.

She's also pretty uppity for someone who's past her prime - she won't allow anyone backstage and refused to meet even the entertainment director of the (first) Aladdin the first time she was in town (never mind that he later ended up in the Black Book - she didn't know he was a mobster).

The link to the entire story is below.

Sun Runner: She can play whatever drum she wants ..

    .. on her own time.

If she contracts with the Aladdin to entertain it's quests, she ought to do it. She owes them that -which is a concept people like her can't seem to get their arms around.

Oh, she'll take the bourgeois Aladdin's money all right, and screw 'em over in the process.

    I hope they witheld payment.

She's not all right. She is a bitch.

The news I have seen and read all evening conclude that the majority of the audience did not like her attitude, many demanded their money back, and the story was not reported "Audience Enjoys Show" because the audience did not enjoy the show.

Granted this is exactly how Mr Moore fact finds in his doccumentaries .. but it does not make them educational nor accurate.

She, and Moore, are elitists of the highest order.

Saboteur: You may have missed the joke

It was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the lyrics from one of her better-known hits:

Sorry. I'll be the first to admit that my humor can be a bit difficult to grok.

Norm Wattenberger: Very poorly written article

First, the article acts as though this was one long show of rants and the audience was rioting. The facts, as reported by the Associate Press:

    1. She dedicated her encore song, at the end of her show, to Michael Moore.
    2. She has been doing this at every stop in her current tour for some time and it was publicized.
    3. The Alladin is a typical casino that bars people for life and refuses to let them into their own rooms at the slightest of whims.

Norm Wattenberger: Why one goes to a concert

I went to see Charlie Daniels at the LV Hilton once. Not my kind of music; one of the dancers at the Paradise dragged me there. The music was OK. I was disgusted by some of the rants between the songs. But, I didn?t throw my drink at anyone or tear down his posters. Or even boo him.

If you just want to hear someone?s music, buy a CD. If you go to see a singer on the stage you are seeing the person. Don?t expect them to mold themselves to your image. An artist is an artist because of who they are. I would have thought less of Charlie Daniel?s if he put on a mask for my benefit. I would have understood the music less. Hell, I wouldn?t have wanted to see Frank Sinatra if he didn?t threaten to kill somebody.

    Sun Runner: Point taken, but

You didn't go to hear Charlie Daniels. You went to be with that dancer from the Paradise -and who could blame you!
