Bettie: Rio to Replace Cocktail Waitresses

Uh-oh guys! The skimpiest-dresses cocktail waitresses are soon to be gone. The Rio is doing a mass firing of all the cocktail waitresses, who will be replaced with singing and dancing "bevertainers."

Clearly one of the most myopic "suit" decisions in Las Vegas history. Insanity and stupidity also come to mind!

I dunno, when I visited Mandalay Bay about a month ago, there was some very intense scenery passing by!! I do mean intense.

I don't often stare, but I admit to a drool as well as a stare. :-)

Parker: And they wonder why . . .

. . . The prevailing opinion on pages such as these is that most upper level casino managers are complete idiots.

I kept looking over LVRJ article, expecting to find an April 1 dateline or some such.

I have heard some boneheaded ideas, but this one takes the cake. I hope the fired CW's get organized and sue their moronic asses.

No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of casino managers -- mental hernias that they are.

I figure that the final step for becoming a casino boss is that you have to undergo a lobotomy, although that presumes there was a brain there in the first place.

Doan Worry: Floor people are probably just as upset

Most likely an upper Mgmt decision made by people who are rearely if ever on the floor or in contact with the day to day ops. I'm sure if it were left to the lecherous , pit critters who's thoughts generally emanate from their "little head", they would have decided to go skimpier, topless or comletely nude.
A decision like that would probably increse the drop many, many times over and make counting all but impossible due to the same primal instincts that exist in counters. Sure would be fun to give up some EV for a show like that though, rather than some 'singing nuns'.

    hip hop: No sympathy here

I am not one of the beautiful people. Let's just disclose that before someone else suggests it. So yeah maybe a little sour grapes here, just a little though.

These girls don't get my sympathy on this. These were the knockouts from all around the country that came to las vegas hoping to make some money on their looks. These girls settle in making 100000K doing 20000K jobs because of their looks. I'm sure there were many more capable waitresses that weren't given these jobs. Perhaps certain assets were too big or too small. Now 10 or 12 years later the looks are fading. Not satisfied with practically stealing a million bucks over the years because of their looks they will now sue for another chunk of change sighting discrimination due to fading looks. Shades of the price is right girls. No, they get no sympathy from me. She who lives by the sword dies by the sword.

Norm Wattenberger: Could be a legal ploy

Suppose they wanted a mass age or looks 'upgrade' of the cocktail waitress staff. A mass firing would probably result in a court date. Perhaps they have experienced suits already as occurred with flight attendants ages ago. But, by substituting them en masse with 'entertainers,' they not only change the job description - but redefine the job such that firing and hiring can take place without legal repercussion. You don't need a reason to terminate an entertainer. After a time, they can dump the idea and hire new cocktail waitresses.

    Parker: Good point

This makes a lot of sense.

The whole concept is so totally idiotic that there almost has to be an ulterior motive.
