I caught this show on the Travel Channel the other night and saw the Sterling Brunch Buffet at the Aladdin was his choice for best brunch.

$52.95! Whew. Has anyone out there tried this? It must really be something to put that price tag on it!

Whenever I see one of these shows, I wonder how they are put together. Does someone go out and sell essentially commercial time to different establishments and then someone like David Cassidy puts his "best of" label on it? Or do they actually approach David Cassidy and get his "best of" beforehand?

I'm probably naive for even wondering.

Bally's does something with a similar price tag, which includes caviar, champagne, smoked salmon, the works. I was unaware of the Aladdin's special brunch buffet, though they do have a great dinner buffet (great tandori chicken).

Can't answer the question about whether or not these are really David's favorites, but I can tell you that no one sells commercial time to these establishments - The Travel Channel is welcome wherever they want to go in Las Vegas (which must be why so many shows on that channel take place in LV).

The network doesn't have to pay the casinos, restaurants, wherever for the use of their space, and the establishment gets free advertising for letting them film. My brother went to a wedding in LV that was taped for the Travel Channel once - they are always in town!

When I first moved to town, I worked at a high-end place for several months, and the Travel Channel came three times while I was working and a few more while I wasn't. We bent over backwards for them, turning off music, driving them around, whatever they wanted, because we were getting free advertising when that show aired - and they show the same shows over and over again, or sometimes recycle clips from earlier shows.

It's just good business.
