    It is indeed a hoax.

    See the following link:

    http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ven...file.hoax.html

Please, people, I know that you all are well-meaning (well, most of you, anyway) but when you get some e-mail warning of a virus alert, check it out with one of the Antivirus websites (Symantec, McAfee, etc.) before blasting it to everyone in your address book.

Or, post a question about it on this fine forum, conveniently provided for this sort of thing, and I will be more than happy to research it for you. :-)

Virus hoaxes are almost as effective as viruses, since people end up forwarding the note to everyone on their contact list anyway, doing the job of what most viruses these days do.

So do as Parker says and check out the virus websites before emailing everyone you know about a potential virus.

Personally, I think people that write viruses should be taken out back...

Yes, I got the e-mail from JB and responded that this was a hoax. Unfortunately this is not a rare type of hoax. The warning is itself a virus in that it tells you to harm your own system. Deleting the file may cause some Java applications to fail. But, few people use JAVA. (The fewer the better in my opinion.)

I got the same message. I have not open the email. So may I just delete the email message warning and forget the whole thing?

The e-mail itself is just an e-mail. But since it contains no useful information, there is no reason not to delete it.

I tried too. What's wrong with the above address, Norm?
