Bettie: Barona free cash offer Qs

For some bizarre reason, I received an offer from Barona in the mail today. I have never played there or in the state of CA. I live in Vegas - why would I play BJ anywhere else? Anyway, the offer is for "$200 free bonus cash," "two-night resort hotel stay," and "a free meal, up to $100." Has anyone ever played under a similar offer? I'm especially curious to know if it's actual cash that they give you. The phrase "bonus cash" makes me wonder. Also, since they are so counter-cautious, would screwing them on play cause a problem with the free hotel room on check-out? I have no problem just playing some VP, provided they have something worth playing, but before I make that kind of a trip, I need as much info as possible. Anyone?

    Thanks,
    Bettie

Well, you won't find a single deck game with 3:2 BJ payout, DAS and late surrender in Las Vegas. :-)

I'm not sure - they never send me comps. (The last time I asked for a comp to the steakhouse I was told, "You're lucky we even let you play.")

Why not just call and ask them?

You could play the single deck game with a 1-2 spread. With a good counting system and full indices this would give you a small edge, but not draw much heat.

Alternatively, you could stick to VP, as Barona has about the best VP of any casino in the area. Nothing positive, but you will find FP Jokers Wild (2Pr), Triple Bonus +, Double Bonus, and NSUD, as well as 9/6 JOB, all in a variety of denominations and modern TITO machines. Cashback kinda sucks, though (.1%).

The steak house is excellent, although $100 probably won't cover dinner for 2. They also have a pretty good buffet and coffee shop. The rooms are also excellent, large (starting at 700 sq ft) and nicely appointed.

The only downside is that, like all California casinos, it is located on an Indian reservation, meaning that you are about 25 miles east of San Diego in the middle of nowhere.

In addition, the last 5 miles is up the side of a mountain on a very twisty narrow road. Because of this, Barona is alcohol-free (although you can order wine with dinner in the steak house).

True, but I also tend to blend well in Vegas and have never been made and/or backed off. That Barona game is a counter-magnet!

    HA!

I just like to get as much info from other sources as possible before getting to that point.

I'm more amenable to playing VP these days, so that sounds like a good option. Especially if I treat it like an actual vacation so my brain can get some rest, too.

Seriously, $100 won't cover two people? I'm not cheap (wait, yes I am), but that'd better be some seriously nice steak! At any rate, I'm the queen of ordering just enough food to squeak in under my comp/coupon level. It's a gift.

Everything in the desert is the middle of nowhere! No, I get what you're saying.

Eh, I'm not a big drinker anyway (and never while I play), but good to know. Sounds like the place has a nice view, anyway.

BTW, the offer included the now way old accolade from Blackjack Forum of "Best Blackjack." No mention that the designation was given something like 8 years ago. Oh well, it sounds like it's probably still true!

Thanks for the info Parker; I'll let you know if we decide to make the trip and we'll have dinner (just not at the casino - I like my anonymity!)

Actually, you can probably get by under $100 if you order carefully and possibly split an appetizer or dessert. Entrees run $20-$60 or so.

It just makes it difficult to do the tourist thing (Sea World, the Zoo, the beach, the clubs in the downtown Gaslamp Quarter, etc.) when you're actually about an hour's drive from downtown San Diego.

It's actually in a little valley nestled up in the mountains, Still, there are lots of trees and it would be quite a change of scenery for someone accustomed to desert.

Indeed, you *don"t* want to be seen with me at Barona.

Fortunately there are a few other decent restaurants in San Diego. :-)

The bonus cash offer you're talking about is the real deal. Back when I was a regular, I would get those mailed to me every month (ranging from $100 - $250). I'd go straight to the cage to get the cash, then go to the buffet (one free every day for Diamond player), then walk straight to my car and leave, not having placed one bet. Those were the good ole days, when I could get a free room anytime I wanted, got a free buffet (for 2) every day, and a free round of golf every day.
Also, the $100 voucher to the steakhouse is also legit. They would send me one on my birthday. And yes, I had dinner for two, and still ended up paying $40!
Too bad about the news that the PC's are backing people off. Haven't played there in a couple years and never got hassled while spreading with reckless abandon. Guess I'm lucky I left, before the heat showed up.
