Jack Fate: On the road again...

Just can't take any more snow. Maybe it's just me, but this seems to be the longest winter in history. It's time to get the RV out of storage and head south. This next trip will last 4 to 6 weeks. The plan is to start up where I left off in Tunica, work my way down to New Orleans and back. The goal is to return with the same amount of denaros as I left with, all the while enjoying life.

There is no set itinerary and I've never been to this part of the country.

Any imput on people and places to see or avoid is appreciated. I've got a few days before heading out, but once I do I'm not sure how Net access will be.

At any rate, feel free to e-mail if you think info is to sensitive.

    Regards, Jack.

I envy your ability to get away.

My advice is not to take any canoe trips down lonely Southern rivers.

Dog Hand: South of Lafayette, LA

    Jack Fate,

If you happen to find yourself cruising down U.S. 90 south of Lafayette, I'd advise taking the New Iberia exit to visit Avery Island, home of the Tabasco factory. You have to pay a small fee (I recall it was $2) to cross the private bridge to get to the island, but otherwise the tour of the factory is free, educational, and fun! They even hand out free bottles, so you'll likely break even on the $2 cost.

If you happen to be a fan of the author James Lee Burke, you can visit the favorite restaurant of his fictional detective Dave Robichaux... it is Victor's Cafeteria, at 109 Main Street in New Iberia... see link below.

A bit further south on 90 you'll find the exit for Cypress Bayou casino (it's the Baldwin exit), run by the Chitimacha tribe. You have to time your visit here carefully, as they're closed from 2 AM until noon M-F and 4 AM until noon Sat & Sun. Lots of countable DD and 6D tables, with the most comfortable BJ stools in the entire state of Louisiana... trust me, I know! The typical DD pen is 50%, but a bit of "dealer shopping" can improve that quite a bit.

Food comps for the cafe and sandwich shop are easy and sufficient to feed a large family or small army. On the other hand, if you feel like spending your own hard-earned bucks on food, they have a hotdog stand (hotdog with everything and a cold soft drink or beer for $1) and a hamburger stand (THREE small burgers and a cold drink for $1). Hard to beat prices like that!

Afterwards, you can continue east on U.S. 90 to visit New Orleans. This trip is a nice change from the usual Interstate route.

    Enjoy your trip!

You may envy the ability to get away but it comes along with being unemployed.. Actually I sold the business, something I've been thinking about doing for a couple of years. It just wasn't fun anymore. It got to be something I was doing because I had to, not because I wanted to. Anyhow we'll see how it goes. One things for sure, if I don't do it now, I never will. If I bust out it won't change my life style and I can always go back to work if I need or want to.

I'll try to post while I'm out.

Stay warm and watch out. March can be a b---h.

You've set a modest goal and have a good starting point. What do you mean by if I dont do it now I never will? Remember to avoid bad shoes and conditions and I think you'll be fine, good luck.

    Jack Fate,

Are you kidding? In Cajun country you can't swing a dead cat(fish) without hitting a great seafood restaurant!

Several "events" have occured in the past few months, which have sort of funneled me into a place I aways thought I'd like to be. Now that it's here....well????

Maybe it's too late to write but when in Tunica, avoid Hilton and Ballys. The best game I could find was in Samstown, but it was back in Feb. Hilton stinks- they call 25$ game high limit(just as Ballys), maybe in early morning hours, playing heads up- lot of heat if U can play BS, not talking about bet spread. I was there just once and my impression, well, Grand Casino- so so, Hollywood so so( if U don`t track shuffles)- red chip counters are OK if not betting over 100$. Good luck
