shuffle: Coushatta management
Does anyone know who runs Grand Casino Coushatta in Kinder? Was Lakes Entertainment until 2002.

Not sure. There were changes in the blackjack games around that time. Do you play their often?

I try to go once per month. My wife and I spent three comped nights two weeks ago. Enjoyed a good steak. I actually made a nice profit of $750 this trip. Mostly on the $10 tables, some $25's. Better than Vegas a month ago. Last day hit two hot shoes in a row on the 6-deck. It was a rare moment, many BJ's, also winning most of my splits and doubles. It was also heads up on a Saturday, imagine that. Great place!

Shuffle,
Congrats on your win. Most of the pit personnel are nice enough, but I have had a little heat there in the past, especially with large spreads. I mostly play the 6 deckers and it is a good game if you watch the penetration levels closely. Good food, usually not too crowded, and good air circulation make it a comfortable place to play. If only they offered LS...

What was the nature of the heat? Did you leave? Have you been back since?

SammyBoy: Re: Coushatta management
I've played there pretty heat free although the last time I was there, about 2 months ago, I was on a big winning streak and I noticed that the pit supervisor was looking in my direction. It was very likely a coincidence, but it was the first time I had ever seen him eyeballing me. I was there several hours and had probably over stayed my welcome. I'm a big winner there lifetime but have used different players cards so I may or may not be in there computers as a winner. I used to rathole alot of chips, but there new system has made that impossible, or should I say more difficult.

Nothing really threatening. Once, it involved two pit members engaging me in conversation while a third stood there and made notes on my card. I guess it was meant to unnerve me if I were a counter. Another time, a security guard stood next to me for about 15 minutes and the dealer and pit boss quit talking with me. Everything was strangely silent, and nothing I could do seemed to rekindle the conversation. It was odd more than anything else.
As for their computerized system, I haven't had much of a problem ratholing green, especially if there are other players betting green and black as I am. I just try not to get as carried away with the practice now.
As a side note, I find that the employees there are usually very nice and comps are pretty easy. I encourage my non-counting friends to gamble there. From Houston, Coushatta is another 45 minutes past the Lake Chuck boats ands probably needs all the good words it can get.

Sounds like serious heat to me!
I had a chance to go back yesterday. Never got ahead this time. They burned me for $300. Tried out three card poker for the first time. Did manage to hit a flush once, broke even overall. Harrahs, Lake Charles now has all 8-deck shoes on the main boat. Dropped $100 there, too. Not a good day for me. Only positive yesterday was making $85 at IOC. Don't really like that place. Back to Coushatta next month!

bigplayer: re: re Coushatta
the place has rotton games, 50% pen at double deck (only 3 tables) and almost two deck cuts at six deck without the surrender option isn't worth the drive. Hardly anything to brag about.
Grand Casino Coushatta's contract with Lyle Berman's "Lakes Gaming" expired a few years ago...the Coushatta tribe runs the casino themselves with their own management team. From what I understand from a relative who is a F&B manager there, the brain drain caused by the departure of Lakes Gaming, has been pretty severe...Although I don't think the Coushatta's have screwed up their business as much as the Choctaw's did when they dumped Boyd gamings management team at Pearl River).

BP,
I play 6D at Coushatta when I'm around and I've consistently been able to find or buy 5/6 pen. Also, I can usually get heads up play. Not having LS certainly sucks, but you take what you can get in south Louisiana.
With the "brain drain", is the casino still doing as well? On a related note, do you know anything about Pinnacle and their new casino in Lake Chuck slated to open spring '05?

It will be the nation's largest one-story riverboat with 49,000 sf gaming area and 60 table games. To open spring, 2005. Should be a great improvement over what's in Lake Charles now.

bigplayer: re: Lake Charles
The Pinnacle guys have increased the size of their planned hotel...should be a big resort. Isle of Capri, from what I understand, is looking to move its smaller boat from Lake Charles to New Orleans.
Glad to hear you can find a good game at GC Coushatta, I may have to drive up there and check it out...it's been a while.
