    CKO: Biloxi Suggestions / Info?

I'm planning a trip to Biloxi in August and I need some help!

Me and my low roller friend will be there mid-week in search of low table minimums ($5 and less)for BJ and craps.

I'll play up to greens occasionally so if there's a place with good comps for green players and below I'd be interested in that too....

What are the better places to stay and play?

Any comments would be appreciated - thanks!

    CKO,

Check out my earlier post (link below) about casino promotions in Biloxi/Gulfport.

Both of these establishments are good for low rollers.

Biloxi,Gulfport has several stores that offer avg.to good blackjack. Be aware that with a few exceptions pen. is going to average less than 60% in DD and about 1.5 dks cut off in 6dk. Anytime you see something better is unusuall.

The Copa in Gulfport is a locally owned casino that is favored by many of the locals. They have 3/2 SD, DD, and 6D all of which have LS available. Most of the time pen. is 50% in SD, 50% in DD, and 1.5-1.75dk cut off in 6D. They also have live poker and some full pay prog. poker machines. Dealers and "Suits" are among the friendliest in area. Comps are relatively easy. Mins. range from $2/3 to $5 on blackjack and craps. Beware the 6/5 blackjack next to 3/2 table.

Going east up the coast to Biloxi you'll come to the President which has some good 6D and 2D games. Mins. range upward from $5 with a $3 min. 6D open during the week I think. They also have live poker and some full pay pokers, although some of the poker machines are old and have no bill acceptors making them inconvient to play. Haven't played blackjack there for some time--be aware when you shove greens and above out you'll get plenty of attention! They have a computer program that the boys behind the "eye" have access to. Comps are easy and they have an older resort type hotel with large shady grounds. Their buffet has some of the better crab legs in town. Lot of 2 for 1 buffet coupons in local paper and other sources. If you stay in their hotel they give them to you.

Just east of the President is Treasure Bay which has more DD tables open most of the time than any other store along with 6D and the 6/5 SD. Mins. are $5/10/25 most of the time. During week you'll usually find $5min. DD and a $3 min. 6D. Pen. varies from good down to 50% on DD. If you play well, even though losing, you may notice the 65-70% pen has become 50% with no obivious signal from pit! Comps are liberal. They too have some full pay prog. pokers. Their hotel is across the street and it has some rooms that open out into their pool area.

Moving on east down the coast you'll come to the Beau Rivage, the states' nicest casino. Not a low-roller casino, but during week you'll find some $5/10 min. 6dks. Some weeks ago the 5min. S17 6dks. were changed to H17 6dks. I don't have to tell you not to play these, right? Play the $10 min.S17 6dks. if you play the shoe games.
You'll usually find one or more $25min. DD tables open. Both the 6dk games and the DD games use a slot in the shoe and discard tray respectively to determine the pen. 1.5dks in the shoes and about 64cards in DD. The 6dk features LS, although as at the Copa, there are no signs stating this. Often at the Beau I've been the only one at the tables I play to ever surrender. You have to work at it at low stakes to get heat at the Beau. The DD game is watched closely especially when you're playing blacks. Some of the worst blackjack players you'll see on your visit will be playing at the Beau. I see players playing blacks frequently that don't know Basic Strategy! Lot of restaurants here and comps not quite as easy as some other places. Buffet is pricey, eclectic dishes, too many entrees and not enough veggies for my tast. Sometimes they have some interestng desserts that I grab when Mrs. Mega isn't looking. Should you be a loser here, you have the consolation that you probably have seem some of the finest, best dressed, most chic females in the area during your visit.

Moving east along the coast from the Beau you come to the Grand,Casino Magic, and the Isle of Capri. All of these have some pretty good buffets and some nice restaurants. Blackjack isn't worth playing except maybe some 6dk. shoes at the Grand and Magic. Isle has only 8dk shoes now I think. No 6dk. shoes. Magic has some full pay poker machines in various denominations. Magic has a 4star hotel which is only one in state I think. Isle has a few full pay JorB machines if I remember correctly. Grand has Murano's Italian Buffet for about $6 if you have a players card. One of the best meal deals in town.

Leaving the Isle and going North toward what they call the Back Bay area of Biloxi you come to the Palace(not the Imp. Palace)which has 2D,6D along with the 6/5SD. During the week you'll find $5min. 6D,$10min.DD and a table of $2min. 6D. Palace has a newly remodeled buffet, a newly remodeled grill and one of the nicer hotels in Biloxi. Comps are fairly easy to buffet and even easier to grill which has some appealing specials if you're paying and watching your budget. Pen in these games isn't real good but depends on the dealer frequently. Dealers and pit are friendly. Not much heat at lower levels of play. Lot of action here on week ends.

Moving on around north and back west on the back bay you come to Boomtown casino. Boomtown is one of the locals favorites. Don't bother with the blackjack, it's unplayable. There buffet is one of my favorites. Think they have a half price special for seniors at times. Lot of locals play the slots here. No full pay pokers that I recall, although there may be some $1 Jor B, can't remember.

Moving west a little you come to the Imperial Palace. Usually during the week they have a couple of $10min. DDs open,a $25min.DD, and some 6dk. shoes from $5min to sometimes $25min. For the most part the blackjack is unplayable here. Occasionally I'll play the DD with certain dealers. Pen ranges from about 50% to less on DD. Was watching a 6dk shoe recently there, one guy sits down and starts betting greens spreading a little and next shoe they cut off more than two dks. He couldn't count his fingers! They don't give you much of a chance at the blackjack. They have a lot of full pay pokers in various denominations and there slots appear to be looser than most, at least when I'm staying in the hotel I hear more people talking about hitting the slots than at most places. Don't play them myself. If you are foolish enough to play their blackjack, the comps are easy. If you play anything much they'll mail you room and food comps liberally. Several restaurants, avg. buffet, their pizza parlor has a really good pizza.

Almost forgot, west of Gulfport in Bay St. Louis, there is a Casino Magic(different ownership from Biloxi Magic) with an old hotel and a new one just opened. The casino is small with usually one 3/2SD that starts at 50% pen and gets immediately worse. Usually they have one or two $10min.DD tables open during week, at times only one. DD pen isn't good, with about 60cards being the best I've seen the last couple of times there. Have 6dk and 8dks with at best 1.5dk cuts on 6dk. Have some nice restarants with a newly remodeled buffet that is one of my favorites. Hotel has a wonderful golf course I'm told. Not being a golfer I don't know but it is one of the prettiest I've seen.

In summary this area has some fair to good games, but you have to hunt them. All the casinos have the carnival games. When the 3card poker was introduced there were some opportunities(Beyond Counting methods), but the weaknesses in the games have mostly been corrected. The coastal area has some wonderful seafood restaurants other than the casino restaurants. My suggestions as to the casinos would be the Copa, the President, Treasure Bay,Beau Rivage($10min,6dk.w/LS) and the Palace for blackjack. All of these except Beau have full-pay pokers too. In addition for poker machines I'd include the Biloxi Magic and the Imperial Palace. Don't play the 8dks, avoid the 6/5SD and avoid the $5min.6Dw/H17 at the Beau. Good Luck!

MP - thanks for the useful info!

Tunica & Biloxi are my nearest, if not frequent, venues so I've missed seeing your Magnolia State updates.

Glad to see you here - give my best to Mrs. Possum and your cousins & uncles.

CKO, during one of your trips to MS you might consider giving Vicksburg some attention. During the middle of the week would probably be better than on weekends.

Isle of Capri, Ameristar, and Rainbow would be my choices to try first. The Horizon down town to me is a "daytime" casino. At night the surroundings are daunting.

Isle has nice DD game and if you are 50 or older, the last time I was there, they had a good room deal.

Ameristar has some good DD at times too. Best buffet of the three places in my opinion. Pay attention closely to the DD cuts here as you might see something deceiving.

Rainbow the last time I was there had true SD and 6D w/LS. If you are playing greens or higher here especially in the SD expect to be closely watched and if winning don't be surprised to get backed off or 86'd. Rumor has it that some are fliered in the rest of the casinos. Look closely here at the 2D cuts and burn card(s)!

If playing at a table with people who might double twelve against five or split threes against tens bothers you much, you might want to reconsider visiting Vicksburg. The level of BJ expertise here isn't too high. Years ago while playing at the Isle I actually saw a woman reach into her purse and bring out a blackjack book which she proceeded to use at the table. She and everyone else at the table were losing so much that while I watched, the "Suits" ignored the book! Even with the book open in her lap she still couldn't play BStrat.

If you are driving and start in Tunica and go to the coast or vice versa, think about going through Vicksburg on the way. If you are interested in history, visit the battlefield park, it's really interesting, especially if you are a war beteen the states aficionado.

By and far the best on the coast is the Beau Rivage 2D games. All green min. though, but with good pen.

If you prefer lower limit, check Treasure Bay and Copa, but often too crowded during peak times.

    Good luck!

thx, we're gonna stay at Beau Rivage, so that should work out well. We'll be there during the wk (Tues-Fri), so I'm hoping crowds won't be too much of an issue. We play greens anyway, so that should help, too.

I stumbled onto this message board just in time. We are leaving for Biloxi and the Beau in the morning. It will be my first time at a bj table. I hope I don't forget BS when the pressure is on.
Thanks for all of the great tips on Biloxi.

We found several $5 tables at the Beau Rivage. At 8:00pm all $5 tables changed to $10 tables.
    The buffet there was great.
The rooms there were very nice also!
