Casino Ship Gets Stuck On Sandbar

    Passengers In No Immediate Danger

    POSTED: 3:02 p.m. EST November 24, 2003
    UPDATED: 5:35 p.m. EST November 24, 2003

A Sun Cruz casino ship filled with 91 passengers has become stuck on a sandbar in a New Smyrna Beach, Fla., inlet, according to Local 6 News.

Coast Guard officials said that the captain of a Sun Cruz ship called Monday after the ship became stuck.

Since no passengers were injured and the ship was not damaged, the crew waited for the tide to go back out to see if the vessel would be able to free itself.

The ship was able to break free from the sandbar at 5:10 p.m. Monday night.

    There are no reported injuries.

So my question is what are the chances of the casino barring you while the ship is stuck on a sandbar? I mean is this one of those situations where you could pour on the steam? And what happens if you get barred from a floating casino? Do they make you walk the plank or something? I mean you can't exatly just leave when miles from shore.

Do the laws of the ship's port of call have effect or the country where it is docked ?

I don't know! I'm not a lawyer and I've never played on a cruise ship. Heck I've never even *been* on a cruise ship.

I know that US based airlines wont serve minors alcohol even over international waters. But I believe that foreign carriers on their way to/from the US will (although I'm not 100% certain of this).

In any event, I sure dont want to walk the plank!

    SammyBoy: The only casino cruiseship....

I've ever been on had the casino open only while in international waters. The drinks are only free while the casino is open. My guess is that if they hit a sandbar they were back in U.S. waters, the casino was closed, and they were paying for their drinks. That really sucks! I will NEVER go on a casino cruise ship again. It was a 6 hour cruise with only 4 hours of gambling, but I must admit that the pen was pretty good on the 6 deck. In fact the dealer actually dealt out another round after the cut card came out. He was placing the cut card 5 decks deep. The best 6 deck pen I have ever seen.
