    Yao: Golden Acorn Casino

I just received a modest coupon book from G.A. and was thinking about making the trip down, are the BJ conditions still the same(6d S17)?

Yes, indeed. These shoe games are the only S17 games left in the county, and are worth the drive for the low stakes player (all table maxes are $500 or less).

There are also a couple of double deck tables, but the clueless casino destroys these by cutting off more than a deck.

Any gain they might get from scaring off the occasional counter is negated many times over by the huge loss in hands/hour as the players watch the dealer shuffle, and shuffle, and shuffle. This is especially true since they do not use shuffle machines.

Pen on the shoes is a more reasonable 75%.

This is also a full service truck stop, which coupled with the remote location, results in a mix of players at the tables that if nothing else, is always interesting.

Tip the dealer before the last hand and then mention that if they deal a few more hands that you will keep tipping. The dealer may not go for that but the next round will be deeper. Many dealers stretch the rules.
Especially for pissed off tipping players.

I guess that this might go in the category of "Be careful what you wish for."

A recent visit to Golden Acorn revealed that the two double deck tables have now been converted to the infamous "fake double deck."

That is, the tables are equipped with Casinovisions Random Ejection Shufflers loaded with eight decks that spit out slugs of two decks at a time, which are then "pitched" like a double deck game.

To the unwary player, it looks like a double deck game with an automatic shuffler. The tipoff is that the backs of the cards in the shuffler are the same as those in play.

So, in reality it is an 8 deck game with 2 decks penetration. (Actually, less than two decks - more on this in a moment.)

Furthermore, these games still feature the higher minimums and worse rules (dealer hits soft 17) that the "real" double deck games had. Maybe casino mgmt thinks that people are too stupid to notice the difference. And in some cases, they are probably right.

Of course, there is plenty of stupidity to go around. Despite the fact that they are now in reality dealing from an 8 deck pack, the dealers are still only giving about 65% "pen" on the two deck slug that they are dealing from! That's right, they cut off almost 3/4 of a deck with the cut card.

Don't they realize that they can deal right to the last few cards in their hands and the game is still uncountable?

With 8 decks and bad rules these are now the worst blackjack games in the casino. Hell, they are some of the worst games in the county. Even a basic strategy player is much better off at the six deck shoes nearby.

BTW, three of the six deck shoe tables now sport the Casinovisons Random Ejection shufflers, the rest are still hand-shuffled when they are open.

I won't be driving out there any more.
