    Sonny: Harrah's - San Diego

According to Harrah's, they've opened up several double-deck tables. I guess they didn't get a good response from their 8D H17 tables, or their 10 6D CSM tables. Has anyone checked out these new DD games? I'm sure the limits are high and the penetration is lousy, but I wanted to hear it first hand.

Last time I was there (a week or two ago) they had two double deck tables, one in the main pit at $25 min, and one in the high limit area at $50 min. Also, their 8 deck shoes have been converted to 6D shoes. There were four of these, two in the main pit and two in the high limit area. Lowest min was $10.

And of course, there was an ocean of CSM's and a SuperFun 21 table or two.

Rules on all games (except SF21, of course), were H17, DOA, DAS, no surrender. Penetration was a mediocre 60% or so on the DD games, and 75% on the shoes.

Still not great games, by any stretch of the imagination, but playable. It is a huge improvement, enough to get them off my personal "burn joint" list.

One nice thing about Harrah's Rincon is that they are now tied into the Harrah's comp system. So, you can use comp points earned in San Diego for rooms, meals, etc., at Harrah's in Las Vegas, Laughlin, etc.

    DD': Harrahs comp system?

While Harrahs has advertised that points used are good at other properties, I have certainly not known this to be the case. Most of the Harrahs properties seem to do things on a per trip basis. Have things recently changed?

To be honest, I've never been a big fan of Harrah's and I am not personally all that familiar with the details of their comp system.

However, the local (San Diego) Harrah's has been advertising that you can earn comps for Las Vegas (and elsewhere) with play in San Diego.

Not a Harrah's response, but a recent trip to Tunica found me with a "new" Gold Strike card. Posters in the elevators and elsewhere tell the reader your play is "usable" at all sister properties...those being Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, Monte Carlo and Circus Circus.

The "new" card has these listed and provides 800 #s on the back of the card.

If you have a players card, check out their website. You can see all comps that will be available to you on this site.

Comps do not transfer between properties. The only thing that transfers between properties is your card status...if you're Diamond based on play in Illinois...you will also be treated as a Diamond Customer in Las Vegas.

Comps are earned at each property based on a weighted average of your last six trips. Trips are triggerd by rated play. When you start a trip at a property you've previously played at you will be given some comp dollars up front for your initial use. These up-front comps are then added to based on play that trip. Any trip comps you earn that day and don't use are lost. The only comps that seem to carry over are the up front comps calculated based on your previous six trip average. Any up-front comps you don't use that trip are then lost. When you show up for your next trip a new up front comp amount, based on the last six trips, is calculated for you. Remember, the last six trips are the last six at that property...not at any Harrah's. That is why it takes a while to get the comp train at Harrah's running...you have to put in three or four good trips before you get a high enough six trip average to generate up front comps.

Harrah's, best features is their mailing offers.

No BJ in Arizona yet. Only live poker and VP. Nothing else is worth playing. The live BJ is going to be here soon, but I don't know what the games are going to be like. The casinos are advertising for dealers right now. I will post when more information is available.

DD': at Mandalay properties, that's true

Mandalay properties actually have what the others claim to have in their false advertisements. You can play bj at the Luxor in Vegas one month and use those comps to eat at Gold STrike Tunica the next month. The points are good, I believe, for a year. Some of the top of the line restaraunts you have to get a host to approve.

It would be nice if both PPE and MGM properties had comp systems like Mandalay. It would be great if Harrahs was like that also. I believe they were for a very short time a few years ago. It ended quickly. I don't think Vegas liked the idea of people earning comps at their soft stores and then spending them in Vegas.

Harrahs new comp system goes online in March 03. Points earned will be good for all properties and will be "banked". That is, they will stay in a player's account until they are used or until the player has 6 months of inactivity. More details should be released soon...
