    KidDangerous: What if...

You are sitting at the BJ table playing your game. Assume you always have a pack of scragglys to smoke for whatever reason. You are using matches. After once or twice of using matches you go to reach for a scraggly and you see a nice shiny zippo tossed to the table for you to use. You look up and see it is the PB who has set before you this convenient tool. You don't have your matches in hand yet.

    What do you do? Why?

Give him a big smile, say "Thank You, appreciate your kindness, but these are my lucky matches." Fingerprints...

    Cheers, Jim

I would do one of the two following things:

    (1) leave the table quickly. I'd hate to be arrested for being in collusion with the pit boss that put a reflective device on the table that might let you see the dealer's hole card.

    (2) I'd leave it alone, and see if it was possible to use it to hole-card the dealer. Since I didn't put it there, it might be hard to make it stick that I am in collusion with the pit critter, or that I used a reflective device to hole-card...

Not wanting to extend my stay in Vegas beyond my flight out, option 1 might be the way to go.

Smile, nod, use it and play. I've been noticed and my play is welcomed.

Think something strange happened and an empty message came from me, sorry.

Anyway, paranoia can and does set in with some of us.
If they need that lighter to get your fingerprints, they could have also gotten them from the coctail waitress, your room if you are staying at their property, your id, if you gave it to them in getting a players card or enough other ways.
Smile say thanks, you have an opportunity for some useful small talk with the pit. If you can hold a conversation, not constantly look at the cards but yet keep the count, he may decide that you could not be counting because you conversed with him while hands were going on.
When I began counting, my uncle would have me turn around while he dealt out 5 or 6 blackjack hands. Then I would turn, look at the cards for a second and turn again and tell him the count of the cards on the table. With practice this can easily be done and though at first you may not have confidence in it, after coming up with the right number nearly everytime it will be second nature to you. I do not smoke but I enjoy the cover of giving my almost undivided attention to a critter while playing my hand.
