    Foster Reed: Greetings

First, thanks to Parker for helping getting my profile straightened out.

Although I haven't been a regular poster on the Heartland Page, I've been lurking here since the beginning. I was a semi-regular over at the old BJ21.com midwest site before the meltdown, but I haven't posted there since. Until recently I only played at a few casinos within my general area. However, I'm now becoming more of a "traveller" through the midwest and have subsequently been visiting more casinos in the area, so I should finally be able to contribute something of value to this forum.

From what I've seen, it appears many, if not most of you, generally play in the Wisconsin\Michigan\Chicago areas. My play takes place mostly to the west and south of those areas. So I don't normally hear too much talk of the games in my "territory," but I'm willing to share some info if needed.

I recently returned from a week-long trip that included stops at 8 midwest casinos. I'm happy to report that for my trip I managed to make a small profit. I enjoyed playing in some of the "regulars'" favorite spots. You guys up in the woods have some good games. Anyway, I am looking forward to contributing to this site any way I can.

    Best of Luck,
    Foster

I am also to the southwest of those areas - do you care to elaborate on where you've been playing? Perhaps we could compare notes. I am trying to get Trackjack updated locally, but it may take some time to get all the bugs worked out of it -- it is easier to list what it has that's correct rather than compile a quick list of all its inaccuracies. =)

You might post a list of casinos in the area you are talking about, that way people who would like more could contact you for offline info.

A general statement of rules, number of tables, limits, crowd conditions would be great -- and doesn't give the good stuff away.

For instance, I am going to Ceasars outside of Louisville, KY this weekend. Can report conditions when I get back if anyone is interested.

    Yeah, I guess I was a little vague. :-)

I'd rather not name any casinos by name. Besides, it would be a fairly long list. I will say my play takes place in Iowa, southern Minnesota, and all the way out to Deadwood in South Dakota. My trips to Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan have been increasing as of late. If anyone would like info on a specific place, I'd be willing to discuss it offline.

Fuzzy Math, drop me a line if you'd like to swap info--I didn't see your address anyplace.

I guess I don't need really specific info, but just some general questions. Overall, were the playing conditions that you found good enough to warrant the trip? If you were to do it again, which areas would you skip? Everything I've read on Wisconsin indicates a number of good games there, but I've not heard anything that excites me of the surrounding states.

If I were to take a trip by car my main options would be to head south and hit Tunica and Vicksburg on the way down, then float around between Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Biloxi; or I could head north and pass through Chicago on my way to Wisconsin.

The playing conditions in Mississippi look very promising, so that's the direction I'd be tempted to head unless anyone can convince me that North is better.

And along those lines: much of the attraction of Wisconsin comes from the deep pen listed on Trackjack. However, I've seen firsthand how much off those reports can be. No need to name specifics, but is it really that easy to find doubledeck in Wisconsin with over 70% pen? I'd hate to travel that far only to find that I'm getting 55% rather than 80%.

Electric Kid: Yes, 80% Pen can be found

Last summer I played at places in both WI and MI that were giving 80% pen on double deck games. Several places I know of would give at least 70% pen. However, I have received reports that at least one of these places has reduced pen alot.

I found conditions in general to be better than what I can find at my "regular" places (6D, H17, no LS) so I have to say I have been satisfied with my trips to WI. For future treks, I think I will concentrate my play on some of the smaller, off the beaten path casinos, mainly for the lack of crowds there. That said, the sole purpose of my trips isn't blackjack.

One thing to keep in mind about casinos in the north--many of these places can't really handle anything more than red to light green. Some have $100 maximums. Green Bay is the only place that I saw that could handle black if this is a consideration for you.

I compared the notes of my trip with CBJN and found that publication to be fairly inaccurate as well. One, that information is somewhat dated. In some cases the rules have changed considerably. Two, I found the listed penetration was, in general, too optimistic. This is especially so for double deck. But as Electric Kid stated, 80% games are out there. Unfortunately the 55% games are there as well. Shoe pen is much more consistent and is pretty decent. If you can't find a cut you like, a 30-45 minute drive down the road should help you see something else. 65-70% is probably the most common game you'll find.

GOOD for you! And me and all.

Those damn dealers just keep running out of cards!

And the women, this time of the year, have cabin fever and lust won't leave you alone. Be careful it CAN affect your play. I may write a book on that subject.

Looks like they cut to a slot on the shoe. About 1 1/2 decks.
Decent game. 2 $5 tables over the weekend, plenty of $10 tables.

The pits are spread out, and over 4 floors. Unlike most riverboats, you are not elbow to elbow with every available inch crammed full with stuff. There is actually room to move around. The BJ pits are mingled with craps tables, etc. so there are a lot of "islands" of BJ tables, so I assume you can jump from pit to pit and floor to floor to avoid heat.

I saw good wonging situations, as you could hang around and easily observe action at nearby BJ tables. AMC classic movie channel was broadcast on TVs everywhere, so "watch" a movie then hop in and out of a game. Then hop to another floor and repeat jumping in. Crowds were moderately light Saturday Afternoon, Sunday was surprisingly busy.

Each floor has 1 double deck pitch game. $25-$1000 limits. Pen was 50% if that, sometimes 55%. S17 - D9,10,11 - NDAS - SPL1 - No mid shoe entry. In high roller room I was able to jump $25 - $150 without even a checks play call, and never played the last hand before the shuffle if count was negative. No eyebrows raised, no indication anyone cared. I assume if you got heat, it would be easy to disappear and reappear on another floor's game.

Good Food -- Coffee Shop outside casino is better than Starbucks coffee. When you get comped, tell them you need it for 1 or 2 other people, as prices are outrageous, you need a 2 person comp to properly feed 1.

Why do people park in the parking garage? Valet parking is free and much more easier. If you can't get a room at the casino, the Ramada Inn on 71 in Louisville has a weekend rate of $67, rooms are decent, place is nice, and free breakfast in the morning.
