sam: ohio river boats

There's rarely a mention here of the Indiana Ohio River boats. Granted the games are rotten, the crowds at Caesars and Argosy are huge, and the players are generally unskilled, but one would think there's something to talk about that might help in gaining an advantage or avoiding disadvantages. I notice on the Indiana Gaming Commission website that the win percentages on blackjack are considerably higher on the Ohio River boats than on the northern Indiana boats. I've never played those northern boats. Are the games better there? The players better there? Both? Better players because of the Chicago metro area? The souhern Indiana boats generally draw from smaller cities and rural areas.

come from large cities? Players from small cities and rural areas read books and go to school too.

Larger population might mean a larger number of knowledgeable players. Perhaps greater familiarity with gambling generally because of longer history of gambling in the area. Caesars on the Ohio River seems to draw large crowds from a relatively small population. No knock on rural and small town folks. Just trying to discover something about the places I play.

Raven Townsend, perhaps the greatest player of all time, did learn the skill in the Chicago suburb of Wheaton Ill. Of course he did grow up in rural New England.

So there may be something in the rural, big city, connection.

Thanks for the note about RT. I don't know anything about blackjack history and only a few advantage players so I can't say who is better and why. Caesars has been open here for five years. Many folks had only bet the ponies before. Some pretty good handicappers are not good blackjack players. Mostly BS players and progressive bettors. Once in awhile I'll see someone playing an advantage game but not often. The DD game is 50% pen, no resplit, no double after split, double 9,10, A only. The 6 deck 66% pen, S17, das, split 3 times, double any two. Maybe those games have something to do with the scarcity of AP's. A shuffle tracking team comes occasionally. They're dealt one hand on the 6 deck game then the cards are washed and shuffled. They still seem to win. O, am I right that you mostly play in Mich? Thanks again for the note.

The games you mention are not that great, hope you can find better. You can always wong in if they allow MSE.

Yes, I am a GNW player but I have played the Chicago games and will again soon, being there on business.

I have very tight career and family responsibilitys which precludes, at this time, engaging in a wanderlust to other casino towns. Reno would be of interest to me.

I have played Deadwood and enjoyed that scene very, very much.

Most six deck games here do not prohibit MSE. Many players request it to protect the "flow of the cards". The pit staff treat it as a favor to the players. Most players can't or don't believe NMSE is a casino counter-measure against skilled players. I haven't been backcounting and wonging. Although, I'm able to use KO effectively while playing so backcounting shouldn't be much of a problem. My struggle is not time to play (I'm semi-retired), it's having a large enough BR to survive the swings. Thanks again.
