    Dave: Greetings

Hi. I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm new to bj so I can't give much expert advice. I have decided on Hi-Lo but I'd like to know why you switched to Halves, Electric? Did you find a substantial improvement after the switch? I am satisfied for now with Hi-Lo and is working for me.

Ouchez: I have played with E. Kid,

and he is a tough player for the casino to beat

He is a BJ Gladiator like Maximus in the movie, "Gladiator". Except remember the part where Maximus spares the unbeaten Gladiator his life? If that had been E.Kid he would have cut his head off!

I am glad he has been given this position of honor and I hope everyone grows very fond of him, because the ploppies and casinos sure are not!!

Best to you my good friend, I am happy for you.

Yes, there was a significant improvement in my game when I switched to the "halves count", although it could have been just a lucky streak I was on right after the switch. I guess I will never know for sure. I did not find switching to "halves" that difficult. What I found difficult was learning how to count in the first place.

    Hi EK,

Glad to be reading you again, seems like a lot of the good posters have moved here or visiting anyway. Was wondering what this TARGET thing is that caused you problems? Is it to be avoided, or just didn't work for you?

Also, of those places you listed as visiting, which are among the top 5 for blackjack play at the red chip level?

EK> I got mixed up with TARGET for awhile which turned out to be a disaster.

TARGET is a method of table evaluation based on a set of factors used to pick "so called" winning tables. What you do is look for these factors and if they are present you play at that table. It is really looking at what has happened it the past to predict the future. Most experts and players think this system is worthless. In fact, I don't know of any expert who endorses it. My experience using it was very unfavorable. Parker might even wash you mouth out with soap if you mention it on his site. Here is a link to some more information about TARGET.

Electric Kid: Second, Great Blackjack Games

And the "Great Blackjack Games" are......Sorry, but I agree with the above post by "mnplayer" concerning the dangers of exposing great blackjack games.

However, I can give you some hints on ways to find the great games in the Midwest. First, almost all casinos have a toll free 800 number. It can be found on their web site. Before I make a trip I always call the casino and ask them what their rules are. Don't talk to the person who answers the phone because they are usually idiots. Instead ask to be transferred to the blackjack pit. Ask detailed questions on their rules. I even ask what the pen is. This can be tricky and you might not get reliable information, but I had one pit boss brag about their good pen and it turned out to be true. Second, know what rules make a good game. S17, DAS, Late Surrender and deep pen are good things. I look for 4 deck games as opposed to 6 deck. For a "red chipper" I like a game where you don't have to double the min to play two squares. I don't like crowded tables. I also look if there is competition from another nearby casino. Is there another casino within 25 miles. Chances are at least on of the two will have a good game. Trackjack and CBJN are also ways to get rules and pen on games. I like the way Trackjack has for reporting pen, but always call and confirm the rules with the casino.

Maybe i'm naive, but don't the casinos know if they are offering a great blackjack game? Yes most of them are fools, but there's usually one or two people who actually know that S17 is better for the player then H17, and things like that. Of course abnormal, unadvertised things shouldn't be revealed, but I wonder what is gained by not telling everyone things the casino already knows...

There is ample evidence that many "great", and "above average" games have been killed by overexposure.

If a great game becomes a major discussion topic here, likely outcomes include 1) An influx of card counters to the subject game, including moronic, amateur hour, game-killing 30 to 1 spread bettors 2) A drop in the profitability of the subject game, as card counter profits exceed ploppy losses to the casino 3) Casino blackjack management, subjected to obvious counter onslaught, table losses, and riducule on these pages and in casino management meetings, will kill the game.
