newtocc: So close but yet so far.

I was playing again during very crowded conditions and played a simple flat betting session with a goal of either winning or losing 10 units. Again I got to within 1 unit of reaching this win goal and it went down hill. To make it worse, my last hand was a pair of A's which I split and lost both hands causing me to lose 11 units instead of 10. This kind of freakish bad luck is very annoying. Obviously, anything can happen in this game.

It's not freakish. That will happen to you again and again as you play on ond on. One of the most common faults of newer players is that they don't realize the magnitude of risk that emobodies gambling.

Magnitude of risk? Can you elaborate on that?

Basically speaking of blackjack, on any one day, luck will have more to do with your outcome than any amount of skill you can possibly apply. It's only after the days, weeks and months pile up that the radical effects of lady luck begin to evaporate -- and you're left with how well you played the game. But in the meantime, you'll experience some of the most unexpected and harsh results.
