Las Vegas, the once friendly city

In earlier days, Las Vegas, even its cab drivers, were remarkably friendly and helpful. The beginning of the change was a quarter of a century back, not recent. I remember talking to casino workers, 25 years ago, about how the friendliness of the city had dissipated. Nothing to dissipate now. A resort city must be, primarily, about fun. FUN. Not gouging you for every dollar you have. Atlantic City, in one casino, has put its future profits on "gentlemen's bars." This is a good fit with the current casino thinking. Every dollar in your pocket belongs to them. Don’t let you leave with any money. I can see this logic in a stripper. Her assets degrade quickly with time. But, a casino should be in it for the long-term. How can this philosophy bring them future profits? Perhaps they are focusing all their efforts on gambling addictions, just as strip-bars take advantage of sexual addictions. Vacationers don’t expect to win. They just think they might, and sometimes do, and that brings them back. The sane, human mind, generally, remembers good events far better than bad events. So, let them win sometimes, and they will come back. If they always lose, all but the degenerate gamblers will learn a lesson and stay away. And, the degenerate gamblers are not very profitable after they’ve pawned their toasters.
I’m not putting down people that enjoy vices. If you have the self-control to deal with vices, and it brings you enjoyment without harm to you or others, more power to you and take enjoyment where you can. But, the mindset in casino cities has completely changed over the decades. And, not to anyone’s profit.
