It's a wonderful verdict, and I'm delighted, but it would have been even better if the security guards in question were summarily executed and their bodies hung from the rafters of the Cosmo as a reminder to the remaining brain-dead Neanderthals on the security force as to what they can and can't do, going forward.

And they appear to learn nothing from these suits.

Im not defending or saying it was wrong. But there is always someone that is looking for trouble or just flipped out. I know the time i got surrounded was definately not a moment to test my athletic abiilty or exercise my rights. They were going to use whatever means necessary to remove me. Even though i was low key but playing where I'd been backed off a few months prior.

We are in a casino. Not a time to push buttons. But also a place to always be prepared to defend yourself.

Don S. If it makes you feel any better, i know a couple of bas asses that have lutcthe hurt to Security Guards. Quite often, they are more scared than the patron. They dont have the option to leave.

I am surprised there is no jail time for the group that did this. You would think they would get 5 to 10 years without the possibility of parole for such reckless actions. They could easily have killed him and they should have known that. That makes it attempted murder. Ad that to false imprisonment (kidnapping) and malicious assault along with trying to rob the guy that had already settled his bill and owed nothing and 10 years seems like a light sentence. This is like a street gang trying to rob and kill and terrorize. People like this should be behind bars for the rest of their lives to guarantee the safety of the rest of us. By not giving a substantial jail sentence they are sending a message that people can do this without consequences. That breeds more thugs.

Read the article. This was a civil (torts) case brought by the harmed patron, Hedge Fund Manager David Moradi (through his personal attorneys, not the state prosecutors) against the casino (The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas) and the nightclub (Marquee Nightclub at the Cosmopolitan) and Roof Deck Entertainment LLC. It was not the State of Nevada against Joe Dimwit Security Guard seeking jail time against a criminal defendant in a criminal trial.

So, it would have been wholly inappropriate for a jury in a civil trial to find any one defendant or group of defendants guilty of criminal misconduct. Their charge was solely to find whether it was more likely than not, by a preponderance of the evidence, that one or any combination of the defendants should be held liable for the damages sustained by Mr. Moradi. AND BOY DID THEY!

I didn't say this jury should put them there. The police and district attorney should have them all up on criminal charges. Perhaps they are but you would think it would be mentioned in the article. A lack of protection from the police and district attorney leads to vigilante justice.

Big casinos run Vegas, most corrupt state! When the hotel/casinos have a problem with someone(cardcounter), etc; the cops are always on the side of the casinos. Casinos run the state, the state runs the cops, the merry-go-round goes round and round, powered by tourist money!

Then the government should be liable as well.
