• Ohio casinos checking big winners for overdue child support

Child support, student loans, back taxes for now. While I appreciate the intentions, I’m worried about the ultimate impact of state regulations on keeping your identity from the casino. Large winnings can trigger a W2G or CTR. But, in these cases, the casino is merely putting your id on a federal form and is not allowed to use it. The state regs appear to call for the casino to access a data base using your id, and may be much looser.

This seems like an invasion of privacy and an illegal practice by the casinos. Since when does a corporation get to cross reference winners with a state debtors database and then impose austere and draconian measures against a winner at a casino? BS! The people should boycott all Ohio casinos. Let'em all go bust.

There is precedence. I may not like the fact that casinos are a part of this -- but, billions in child support go unpaid and can be incredibly difficult to collect.

People are responsible for their own actions and it is sad that children have to suffer and do without because of a deadbeat parent who may not be living up to their responsibility. I don't like that casinos are a part of this type of practice either. I wonder if they are going to have some type of forfeiture clause in there where if someone does owe back child support or taxes for whatever reason, does law enforcement get called to make an arrest and a jackpot gets voided? I see this as another way to ever so slightly increase the house edge, with the potential to send someone to jail, for winning. I see it as a type of capital control that can only work in the houses favor.

The funds go to the person owed. Look, this is not something casinos want, any more than casinos (or other financial institutions) like CTRs. They would be the last to like such a law. It means people that owe child support are less likely to play in casinos. No corporation likes to cause problems for its customers, no matter what jerks they (casinos and deadbeats) are.

Okay. The state in which I live in cross references winners names in a database to check for back taxes and child support, etc. Lottery winners that is.

As does Oklahoma. For child support IF the State has a judgement against you for collection, which in a lot of cases it has for delinquent parents, then it will snag tax refunds; large government payments; unclaimed funds; garnishment, etc. The data base they use normally is only for delinquent support they have attempted to collect; not just the usual parent who is owed child support.

I like it! I also like cops confiscating my funds in the war on drugs. I also like taking away innocent peoples freedom and not punishing the guilty. I like it all.

Is this only for in-state residents or will they contact my state of residence and check with them also before paying me even if I don't live in that state? I know neighboring states work together sometimes, once I got a speeding ticket in Florida and my home state wouldn't renew my drivers license until I paid my ticket over in Florida. And is there a website where one can see what states are doing this so I can stay the heck out of those states' casinos!
