• Caesars AC robbed of $180,000

Two guys walked in, pulled a gun, and left with $180,000 yesterday. This time they got cash instead of clay.

I was in Caesars AC about 6-7 years ago when there was a smash and grab - guy came it with a crowbar, pried the lid off an empty table near the door exiting to the Boardwalk, and ran out the door. Never heard anything further about that one.

They want you to feel safe. There have also been a number of robberies in the elevators over the years.

Yah, I have had some don't get into that elevator vibe before a couple times and waited for the next. The last time I was there we parked at Bally's. The elevator to the parking garage opened and a bunch of people were waiting but nobody got in. There was plenty of room but the 3 intoxicated guys really gave everyone the vibe of do not enter. I had never seen that before. I can take care of myself pretty good but if I have to take out three thugs I like more room than there is in the elevator. Plus trying to figure out which is the strategic one to take out first becomes almost moot. In the situation correctly assessing that can win the battle before you have to engage the other two. They either give up or become easily subdued.

Amazing that a casino could be robbed of so much cash so easily. Must have been an inside job-- someone who works there or who has worked there and knew the procedures well enough to pull off something of this magnitude. It's not like casinos are unaware of the need for security! Someone sold them out. This was not a lucky coincidence for the thieves.

And you don't dare take a gun. Did you see what happened to that lady last week who accidentally (so she says) carried a gun in her car in New Jersey. She is facing three years mandatory sentencing, unless she can win enough favorable public sentiment that the Governor is forced to commute her sentence.

Lets not overanalyze the situation here. The correct play would be to avoid confrontation at all costs.

Amen to that. That's what valet parking is for if you play solo, especially if carrying large sums of cash as in playing high limit requires and as in having exceptionally large winning sessions. Assume you are being watched when you bet or win large, and I don't mean casino surveillance. Habitually carrying large can eventually make one indifferent to the dangers that surround them. It's always when you least expect it, so stay alert and plan wisely.

No argument there but predators can size up the mind of prey. If they see fear you are toast but if they see confidence in your ability to protect yourself they will often try to find easier prey.

The funny thing about the elevator situation that I didn't mention was the odd lot on the elevator were a minority group and the crowd of people waiting for the elevator was the same minority group except for me and we all thought it unwise to enter the elevator. I wasn't the first to make a comment after the elevator doors closed. We were all thinking the same thing.

Better to be safe than sorry. I have let elevators pass more than once. I have also gotten off on the wrong floor purposely, relying on my instincts, which may or may not have been overreacting.

I let the elevator go just like everyone else. I don't look like easy prey but others may not be so lucky but we can all keep from acting like easy prey. Unless they are targeting a known wad of cash predators are looking for easy prey.

With a gun, some criminals believe they are invincible and if drugged out enough don't really care if they take a life. But as a general proposition, I do agree with your idea that predators are looking for an easy target-- the reason there are so many murders in Atlantic City is because there are no little old ladies there with $10,000 bankrolls who will say, "Here, you can have it! But please don't hurt me!"

It definitely helps to be aware of your surroundings. You can never be to careful.

Do casino patrons get robbed often in AC?

I don't know the robbery rate, but there have been several murders on or near the boardwalk near the Taj Mahal end of the boardwalk. There was one murder in the very same place in the Taj Mahal's parking lot where I used to park. I parked there because it had a shortcut to the Taj entrance. The robber also knew about that shortcut. I haven't parked there since.
