• A New York casino -- in New Jersey

The founder of Reebok has proposed a 95 story building with a casino in Jersey City. As Springsteen likes to point out, one of the great NY tourist sites, the Statue of Liberty, is actually in NJ; The New York Giants actually play in NJ; The song New York, New York, was sung by a man from NJ. So, why shouldn't NY's casino be in NJ? Jersey City is just across the river from Manhattan with very easy access.

It seems like another Revel in the making.

Hardly. Revel was built in a city that was dying and already had too many casinos. A casino in Jersey City would be ten minutes from New York City, and the ONLY casino nearby. New York is the third most visited city, after Paris and London, even with no casinos.

We'll see about that. The way it seems to me AC is dying from too much competition from casinos opening up in surrounding states, besides for other variables. It's not a NY casino, it's another Jersey casino with Jersey taxes. They want to put this thing 10 minutes south of NY City to try and choke off AC until that town turns blue in the face. I guess it's the only way they can one-up themselves in a tight market in that area, by creeping closer to the metropolis.

Why would New Jersey want to choke off New Jersey? Particularly considering the money that NJ has invested in AC in the last few years? The fear in NJ is that NY will build a casino fairly close to NYC driving another nail into AC. One possible plan is build a northern NJ casino closer to NYC than any NY casino would be, to tax the Northern casino at a higher rate, and use some of the taxes to help A.C.

This is hardly "creeping" closer to NY. Jersey City is closer to Times Square than Queens, Brooklyn or the Bronx.

Hey Norm - Maybe you could set up a CV products kiosk in the casino

Nothing has helped AC in 30 years of casinos.

Oddly, many, many years ago, someone was trying to get me to program a kiosk in a casino to teach BJ.

Having another casino that will be insanely busy that can't bar AP's is hardly a bad thing, I vote for NJ. But if a casino goes in north jersey the biggest casino to be impacted in Sands Bethlem. All the Asian NY Baccarrat crowd is already there, not AC so that business is not coming back anyway.

For the drop. I'm not sure how much they've invested in AC over the years but it seems they could have possibly used it in better ways. The fear in NJ/AC is the jist of what I was referring to. I could see why they would tax a northern NJ casino at a higher rate if they build it, who in the Big Apple would want to make the drive to AC if they had a new casino for the inhabitants of NYC just a hop skip and a jump away in Northern NJ? If they do build that thing do you think the drop at the Borgata will fall?

I am not sure where they are came from but when I played at Parx the casino had more Asians than all other ethnic groups combined. Of course the best BJ was next to the Asian games area I assume NYC was a prime contributor to those bus groups but Philly has a large number of such citizens to draw into the casino.
