    The Governor’s current thinking is no casinos near New York City for five years after the upstate casinos are built. All casinos in upstate New York. While I understand the need for new jobs in upstate New York, why would tourists go there instead of other cities with casinos? Upstate NY has magnificent lakes. And if natural beauty and solitude is what you are looking for, it’s a great destination. But, that’s generally not what gamblers are seeking. Las Vegas is going the other direction -- with mega-nightclubs housing thousands of people.

    NYC has millions of residents. On a typical day, Manhattan Island has 2.5 million visitors, outnumbering residents. But, no casino within 100 miles. London has 24 casinos.

      100 miles by auto, bus, train, is perfectly tolerable.
      Born in N.Y.C. I find city-based casinos unnerving.
