    Site that sells casino microphones. They sit under the green baize, and are, therefore, not visible. Casinos like Crockfords have listening devices at every Roulette and card table.

      Good point. Do any states have laws against using spy apparatus for the purpose of eavesdropping without recording?

      I used to be a real spy gear junkie. I could eavesdrop on a conversation a quarter of a mile away. I wonder if the green baize would muffle the sound? Plus the proximity of the clanking chips would override some conversation. I think a directional microphone pointed directly at the chair/person/betting plot would be more effective.

      With the microphone tuned into the frequency range of the human voice they should be able to filter out a lot of extraneous sound, such as clanking chips and music.

      I'm sure the under table mikes were also engineered to handle whatever is between them and the people/person talking, even if they have to go to the extent of using special materials for this purpose. They are not going to spend serious money on a system that is defeated by things that are in their power to change.

      I'm siding with the casinos on this one. They spend millions on surveillance equipment, and could probably compete with the CIA/NSA for state of the art-- too bad they don't spend any more than they have to on salaries for their employees (not for our sake, but for their families' sake).
