  1. How Often Do We Reach a Count?

When you are playing a six deck Blackjack game, and using KO or REKO, you start the count at -20. But, you do not get to bet until the card count has increased a fair amount. The question was asked on my forum, how often does this happen? Good question. I ran 32 simulations. All were six deck, S17, DAS, three players. Penetration varied from 65% to 80%. I measured the percentage of shoes where the count reached levels of -2 through +4. Below are the results.

  2. Wonging — How Many Shoes Do We Exit?

Continuing the Wonging series started with Wonging — How Many Shoes Do We Play, I’ve added a chart on Wonging out. The question is, how many shoes do we exit? In this test, I assume that the player will exit at a fixed true count. Six decks, HiLo, 85% penetration. We will look at tables with one though five other players. And, we will look at Wongers that exit at a true count of -1, -2 and -3. Actually, the player will exit at one count lower if it is the first deck in the shoe.

  3. Wonging — How Many Shoes Do We Play?

There seems to exist a paucity of data on Wonging. I thought I’d add a series of tables. Let us start with the number of shoes played. The question is, if we backcount an entire shoe, what is the likelihood that we will ever enter the shoe? In this test, I assume that the player will enter at a fixed true count. Six decks, HiLo, 85% penetration. We will look at tables with one though five players. And, we will look at backcounters that enter at a true count of +1, +2 and +3. The red player (the

  4. Card Counting Strategy Complexity vs. Speed

In my last post, I looked at the effects of increasing error rate when increasing Blackjack strategy complexity. As a quick follow-on, let’s take a quick look at decreasing speed due to increased complexity. Speed is something I mention numerous times in my books. When using a more complex card counting strategy, the number of rounds that you play in a day can decrease for two reasons. First, you may spend more time thinking. Less obvious is the fact that you are likely to tire more quickly, and

  5. Card Counting Strategy Complexity vs. Error Rate

In Blackjack, we know that there are many card counting strategies, and that the more complex strategies provide better performance. But, we also know that this comes at a price. You are more likely to tire using a more complex count, and you may make additional errors — and, these errors may negate any improved performance. But, how does the complex counting strategy’s performance compare to the decrease in performance due to errors? Obviously, it depends on the error rate.
