Is a public database of casino rules good or bad?

I think the arguments pro and con are obvious. I’ve struggled with this for 20 years as I have tried to supply this info in my software in the past. I’m not even convinced it is possible, much less desirable. But, thought I should ask the question.

Norm, tough to include in software. Updates come too slowly. You know my thoughts from subscription thread but truthfully a fundamental, not too detailed listing of casino conditions or rules would be great info; lots of players on this site and info fed down as to at least what is available and current rules (as they are posted) would truly be appreciated from me. I know not too much detail, such as penetration, would be good in a public forum. But there are lots of types of players here from professional to novices to ones who treat this as an avocation to ones who dabble a little more but don't really play that much to math "nerds" and programmers. Some basic info would sure be nice with the understanding that further scouting would be necessary for any pro. Besides from what I see, pros don't rely solely what's on these boards anyway and do their own scouting for what they consider playable. But general information would sure be a start. Shoot even knowing table limits; number of tables; pitch game availability; only shoes; and general playing rules would be appreciated by me. Changes occur often but everyone here plays in so many locations so often that their input would be good to update information as it changed.

It's tough to maintain. Better to just let players input rules for various casinos and store their own database. Even CBJN has casinos that only get updated every 3 to 5 years in the hinterlands. (Only the major casino markets get updated and only because Wong has paid reporters). In the hinterlands everyone is protecting their turf and isn't giving up any favorable rules changes until after they've had their chance to burn out the play or have gotten backed off.

I think posting full information including pen has obvious downsides. Nobody wants to see games killed, so many of the good games are likely to be entered incorrectly to protect them. If this is true, the pen info can't be truly relied upon. And if you can't use the pen info, what's the point? To me, knowing what limits are offered is probably the most useful piece of info in that it gives me some general idea of what kind of action a place might take. But that's info I can get from an innocuous phone call to the pit. It's not the kind of question that arouses any suspicion. I don't see any way a public database could really be useful, because I really wouldn't trust whatever it said anyway. The best approach is to network with players in a similar situation as you, scout your own games for the most part, and supplement that with info from your network.

That info is already posted and publicly available on CBJN.

Yeah but they lie about the pen on most of the games with great pen.
