Some concerns have been expressed about the use of the forum via WiFi or a room connection in casino hotels. You can now access the Blackjack: The Forum via SSL which will encrypt the site in both directions. (Actually TLS, which is newer.) I recommend only using this method of access when you feel the need as it slows response time somewhat. If interested, read on.
To access via SSL, you must use the following exact url, including the https, the www, and forum.php:
The forum, the blogs, The AP News, Private Messages (PMs) and Instant Messages (IMs) will be secured. The chat function will NOT be secure as it uses a different server. If there is enough demand, I can enable a secure chat room using the IM bar at the bottom of the screen.
Some notes on browsers:
Internet Explorer
IE9 will constantly come up with one of its famously annoying messages: “Only secure content is displayed.” The reason this message pops up is that some of the files are not encrypted. I have analyzed the data stream and found that the only files that are not encrypted are Javascript files. All sensitive text is protected. To get rid of the message, click on the tools icon (the blue gear), click Internet Options, Security tab, Custom Level button, under Display mixed content, select enable, and click OK.
Chrome
Using Chrome you will see that https is in red and crossed out. Click on the lock and it will say that the connection is encrypted, but that some resources are not. These are the Javascript files discussed above and the warning can be ignored.
FireFox
You should notice no difference with FF.
Please report any problems.
