    Fab 4

I am using the Ill18 & Fab4, S17, 6D (Bellagio). I have a 15 vs A. Count of 3 or greater says take Insurance so, I do. Yet, I am supposed to Surrender after losing my insurance bet?
If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

.... and then, ignoring the snide comments from the dealer and the other players, watch the pit and decide whether you should leave soon (probably should).

Normally, I'd say you're being a bit paranoid. But, in this case, you're absolutely right. Don't mess with the Bellagio.

After getting the card counting (Old Complete Hi-Low; inc. I18 & F4) down, what should one work on in order to be a successful counter?

Your "act". You can't make any money if they don't let you play.

Are there certain hands I should misplay? Any chapter/book I should read?

There are plays that attract heat. There are plays commonly used as a checklist for possibly being a counter. There are hands that are cheap to misplay.BJA3 has chapter 7, Camouflage For The Basic Strategist And Card Counter. Blackjack Attack, the third edition or current one if it is a new addition is a must own for counters. Get the soft copy of the third edition. It contains more than the hard copy.

True - if they run a skills check over enough shoes, you're done. Your act can keep the critters from asking for a skills check.
