I think you will find that insurance decision sometimes can be used AS a cover. I have had discussions with the dealer that we know it's "guessing" or betting on whether he has a face underneath. Sometimes I just tell him I have a feeling (high count); other times, "guess" that he doesn't have it (low count). We make it a game. Not everyone (players or dealers) have the attitude that insurance IS "insurance" for a good hand. Some do; some don't. (Of course taking even money on a blackjack is a different attitude). I have even enlisted players at the table to show me their hands in a pitch game, to see if they have face cards in their hands (so we have a group "guess" as to whether chances are dealer has a face or not). Helps me with count and in my decision. And anything that reflects I am gambling, guessing, or making a random decision assists in concealing that I am truly trying to make a "reasoned" guess based upon the count.
