The NFL has found 11 of 12 footballs under inflated to exactly the same low pressure. It is so low other QBs go wow when handling a ball inflated to that level. when they grab a football inflated to that amount. The NFL has interviewed 40 people around the controversy. But they haven't interviewed any of the players yet. That was in their press release yesterday. Doesn't that seem odd to you? It looks like the Pats owner's good friendship with NFL execs may be delaying a proper investigation. It may just be that the NFL doesn't want to suspend Brady or Belicheck until after the SB. You can bet whatever the NFL does it is all about product and protecting their brand and if it works out that some justice falls within those considerations the fans will get that.
So your basically saying that the NFL is rigged right? Why didn't the refs stop the game after the Pats plays on offense when they set the ball for the next down if the balls were indeed deflated? Why wasn't it corrected by the refs? Overall I still think this supposed cheating scandal is a sales gimmick, designed to get people to tune into the game. They have to create a controversy that people will be talking about up until the Super Bowl.

When you watch things over often you find you missed something. I was up channel surfing Saturday Night and came across this video. Iy sheds new light on the issue of deflate-gate. It's pretty funny parody of what we watched while getting the spirit of what we saw in the interviews.

Just a couple plays in that game and one change to this game and we would have made the playoffs instead of having a losing record. If rigging by the league ever was proved the damage would be tough to recover from. That makes it a little far fetched. The stakes are too high. But if you care to think along those lines the league could have set up NE so a punishment could restore the parody they seek. The Dez Bryant reception at the end of the Cowboys game could have been the league squelching those saying the Cowboys were receiving favoritism. Dez didn't need to make a football move but control the ball long enough to make a football move. That time depends on how you catch it but the fact that many saw him stretch for the goal line (a football move) before being down by elbow or knee means that whether you thought that is what he did or not he had time to do it. That means it was a catch and he was down as a runner before the ball hit the ground. I think there is too much at stake for these shenanigans on a macro scale but corruption on a micro scale most likely happens.
Exactly! The stakes are too high for there to be rigging going on. Sports rigging is alive and well T3, don't be naïve to think it cannot happen because it has happened across a multitude of sports. Casinos fix their games when they suspect that there may be an AP playing in-order to gain an upper hand. Why wouldn't the NFL fix their games to gain an upper hand on the spread when Billions are on the line to determine a certain outcome. If I was the commissioner I know I would be rigging the games. Just like in the stock market, I would be in their fixing the market to an outcome that would only desire me. If I could do it, I damn sure would.

Even Pete Carroll admitted he didn't have a clue about the pressure of footballs. It's the concern of QBs and ball boys, but nothing could be further from the mind of a head coach. Carroll now says he knows everything there is to know about the balls before the game, but only because of the present issue. It is perfectly believable that Belichick knew nothing about football pressures and protocols. Anyone who says differently is another of the many of those who are jealous of Belichick's success as a head coach. It's as plain as day.

This is not to say someone did not have something to do with it, or maybe not. LOL

    Tthree,

We just have to wait until the NFL finishes its investigation into the under-inflated balls, and announces its findings.

    Here's what I understand:
    1. The game balls have to be inflated between 12.5 to 13.5 psi of gage pressure.
    2. There are no specifications related to ball inflation except gage pressure.
    3. Gage pressure is affected by temperature, atmospheric pressure, and altitude/elevation.
    4. Also, as far as I know, there is no specific rule about what gas is to be pumped into the balls. It could be 12.5 psi of air, helium, hydrogen, neon, water vapor-laden air, or some other gas mixture with a different volumetric thermal expansion rate.

So, I think ... beginning next season, the NFL should be more specific when specifying ball inflation parameters (12.5-13.5 psi of air, measured on the playing field).

Here are some of the possibilities:
    1. One or more of the Patriots' staff intentionally deflated the balls with or without orders.
    2. Other people with access to the Patriots' game balls intentionally deflated the balls for reasons unknown; could be a frame-up, or could be to give IND some advantage in the game (NE scored 28-0 with properly-inflated balls).
    3. The deflation had occurred naturally. The balls were inflated to 12.5 psi in the locker room, or nearby where the temperature was around 70. See my post below and MIT Prof's comments (link below).
    4. Even during pregame, the balls were under-inflated, and the referee(s) failed to check.
    5. The referee could have been the one under-inflating the game balls.
    6. During pregame, the referee was using a defective pressure gauge -- showing correct pressure for under-inflated balls.
    7. During half-time, the referee was using a defective pressure gauge -- showing erroneous under-inflation.
    8. Brady may have noticed that the balls were "softer". But if he trusted that the refs and equipment staff did their proper checks, why would he question the ball pressure.

NOTE: If, later in the week, you make a pick of SEA + 1, how would we know if that pick is an unbiased assessment of SEA over NE?

It's certainly NOT rocket science! It's just a case of simple physics, particularly the "Universal Gas Law" or sometimes referred to as "Ideal Gas Law" which incorporates "Amontons' Law", "Gay-Lussac's Law", "Boyle's Law", "Charles Law" among others.

The laws state, in part, that the pressure of a gas in a contained vessel is proportional to its temperature. I have heard on the news that scientists have stated that a ball inflated to 12.5 psi at 72F will drop by 2 psi with a temperature drop of 20*F.

Seems to me that the Patriots are simply "Smarter than the average bear."

To NFL newbies: Please perform your own analysis. Confirm any stats presented. Draw your own conclusions.

Handicapping is EXTREMELY hard! All statistical evidence (and game insights) may indicate strongly a specific outcome, winner, or continuing trend; but a turn-over, a missed field goal, an erroneous call, a key injury, etc. can easily change the outcome, the margins, and/or the totals. Division rivalry games and games with playoff implications are highly unpredictable.

For one thing, they ought to consider widening the range of acceptable ball pressures. That would preclude their having to set up complex and unwanted ball protocols.

All of this is nice but it doesn't speak to "who" if in fact the balls were actually at 12.5 psi to begin with as alleged.

Does anyone know what Sherman and Thomas' status is for sunday. How injured are they? Can the pats take advantage of the secondary?

They both claim to be close to 100% but I don't buy it. Brady to Gron should be huge in this game.

No kidding, thank god for the officials pumping those balls back up! Anybody catch how D'quell jackson or however you say his name "stealthily" recanted the story about HIM bringing it to everyone's attention?

Absolutely nothing but a sales gimmick, gotta keep people glued to the TV's for those viewer ratings.

Yeah, because Brady cheats and all. You did such a great job providing zero evidence to your "brady cheats" theory with your home/away games that you broke down the stats on for the last 10 years to post nothing but garbage numbers that made no difference either way.

Just like how Brady and Company, with only a 10 point lead (not nearly as big a lead as you made it out to be in response to Aslan) managed to torrrrrrrrrrrrch defense after the "properly inflated" balls were put into play.

I never though T3 to be a complete nutjob, but I'm starting to weigh a little in that direction lol.

Earth to T3, its a sales gimmick, you should know better.

NE -1 vs SEA - As mentioned, I like to take the good D in this situation, but this is not the same soft NE defenses of late, or the same as Den/Sea (Den has no inside run or a decent defense). Its basically the Gronk-Beastmode Bowl, one or both of them are going to go off and that will decide the game, who can say. This whole Deflategate "scandal" itself deflated, so I feel better about NE getting a lot more of the calls going there way. A weak pick, should be a close game.

Also feel the score is going to go over 47, both teams will probably get at least 20 something points.

Unbelievable! The game is lost on a stupid play. Carroll calls it a miraculous play to intercept. What was really a miracle is that New England got one more chance to intercept, which was about their only hope. And what is mind boggling is not giving the ball to their best player who makes 5 yards even on a broken play. What ever happened to jumping over the pile, or a running play with Lynch and Russell as weapons? Unreal!

The fellow next to me said well before the end of the game, when the Pats took possession losing 24-21, that the Patriots would score a touchdown and win the game They got the touchdown, but it wasn't over yet. Then when the Seahawks got the ball back with 2:02 on the clock he told me the Patriots would intercept. Right again, but who'd a thought it would happen on the goal line?
